{"id":1433,"date":"2021-06-15T01:45:18","date_gmt":"2021-06-15T08:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/simivalleydaycamp.com\/?p=1433"},"modified":"2021-09-01T09:57:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T16:57:12","slug":"rock-creatures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simivalleydaycamp.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/15\/rock-creatures\/","title":{"rendered":"Rock Creatures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scientists work all over the world, in labs and offices, in jungles and desserts, even in the oceans and at the South Pole.\u00a0 One of the many things they do is try to find animals and plants that no one has ever found before.\u00a0 Right now, we know of about 1,600,000 species on our planet &#8211; and that&#8217;s a LOT of different plants, animals, and other living things &#8211; but scientists estimate there are around 8,700,000 species.\u00a0 That means there are over 7 MILLION species still to be discovered on Earth!<\/p>\n<p>For this activity, you get to create your very own, unique species.\u00a0 How?\u00a0 By making a rock creature!<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need:<br \/>\nGoogly eyes<br \/>\nPipe cleaners and other things to decorate with<br \/>\nSome crayons<br \/>\nA rock<br \/>\nGlue<br \/>\nA piece of parchment paper<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 350 degrees<\/li>\n<li>Place the parchment paper on an oven proof baking sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Figure out which side of your rock you want to be the top of your new creature. Place your rock, that side up, on the parchment paper.<\/li>\n<li>Once the oven is preheated, heat the rock in the oven for about ten minutes. (Use parental help if needed.)<\/li>\n<li>Get your crayons ready while you are waiting.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully take the tray out of the oven and place it on a heat-safe surface.<\/li>\n<li>Without touching the hot rock with your fingers, draw on it with your crayons.
